About
Pals for Life-Memory Cafe’ was founded by Patricia Loy. The dream of the cafe’ began years ago while working as a nursing professor with students in clinical settings taking care of our elderly. The goal was to offer resources for people with dementia living at home and other settings, and their caregivers. The cafe’ will offer activities that engage the person with dementia with no need for recall or planning. Activities will include all the senses in creative arts to enable persons living with dementia to express themselves while also integrating their caregivers into activities to support and reinforce existing relationships. While working in the community setting, it became clear that there was a lack of knowledge regarding resources to help with the care of persons with dementia, such as respite care, and a need to learn skills as caregivers’ loved ones digressed. Education classes will be offered to provide various sources of information regarding care and care skills. We strive to keep families and community partners informed about innovative programs that engage people living with dementia. The cafe’ will access and use venues and resources in the communities across central Arkansas to embed engagement programs in the community.
Our value lies in what we are and what we have been, not in our ability to recite the recent past.
